The Sleeping Virgins - Saved or Lost?

A Startling Message

By: David M. Curtis

The Bible teaches the dead are SLEEPING awaiting the resurrection right now.

ALL 10 virgins slept. What does this mean? Are the virgins in a "Saved" condition as they sleep, or are they in a "lost" condition?

This spiritual sleep that ALL 10 virgins experience is SPIRITUAL DEATH, in other words they lack a saving relationship with Jesus. 5 are too proud to recognize it. Only 5 will awaken when they learn their true condition and trim their lamps (confessing and repenting of their sins) making them shine with light.

Wherefore he saith,
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. Ephesians 5:14

Brother's and Sister's there are only two sides.

Christ -v- Satan
Light -v- Darkness

Either we are actively walking in the light or we are dwelling in darkness.

Christ said if we are not with Him we are AGAINST Him.

So tell me? Are the SLEEPING Virgins FOR Christ or AGAINST Him?

Really now! What do you think?

They may not be OPENLY against Him? Oh No! In fact they are convinced they are genuine Christians. All ten were "virgins" right? That is the very definition of the Laodicea Church. We think we are rich, increased with goods and have need of nothing.

What causes this self delusion? How did we become lukewarm?

Imagine with me a gallon of boiling hot water and a gallon of cold water just above the point of freezing. Mix them together and what do you have? You are left with lukewarm water of course.

The hot water = OBEDIENCE
The cold water = DISOBEDIENCE

Ruins of Laodicea

Laodicea mixes obedience and disobedience. They think God puts them in balances and that their good works will out weigh their bad deeds. This is not how it works. The Pharisee praised his own works and conveniently forgot about all his bad deeds, while condemning the evil deeds of others. This Pharisee thought he was perfectly righteous before God when he really was a lost man. If you are living a obedient / disobedient life, it is what the Bible calls double mindedness.

“He that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6-8.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Matthew 6:24

How to have a Living Faith

There are many who seek God's grace to cover their sins as they march right towards them. There are very few who seek God's grace for what it is really intended for; power to resist sin, and power to overcome temptation.
Let us remember that lip service means nothing. A profession of Christianity is no guarantee of salvation.

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. Matthew 15:8

So let me get personal… Your answer to this next question will help you to recognize whether you will wake up to be among the 5 wise virgins or the 5 foolish.

Is your character holy or worldly? Are you consecrated or compromising principals of righteousness? Are you striving to obey Christ in all things, or have you forgotten that this is the goal?

True holiness is wholeness in the service of God. This is the condition of true Christian living. Christ asks for an unreserved consecration, for undivided service. He demands the heart, the mind, the soul, the strength. Self is not to be cherished. He who lives to himself is not a Christian. Christ Object Lessons p. 48, 49

Are you serving one master or two? If the answer is two, you must wake up, you must recognize your true condition. Being lukewarm is comfortable. No one likes to change; we all want to feel like we have “made it.” If you are not STRIVING to enter the narrow gate, you may wake up a day too late to find out that you have really been taking the leisure cruise down the broad way to destruction.

Are you self seeking? Or are you self denying? I won’t lie to you; there are temporal pleasures in gratifying your self; giving yourself what ever your heart desires. However you need to know that if you live for self, you are not a Christian. Be not deceived. If you are self-denying, you will constantly be at war with your human nature. You will need the grace of God to endure to the end. There are many who seek God's grace to cover their sins as they march right towards them. There are very few who seek God's grace for what it is really intended for; power to resist sin, and power to overcome temptation.

Has this message today startled you? I hope so!

The publications sent forth from our printing houses are to prepare a people to meet God. Throughout the world they are to do the same work that was done by John the Baptist for the Jewish nation. By startling messages of warning, God's prophet awakened men from worldly dreaming. Through him God called backsliding Israel to repentance. Testimonies, vol 7, pp. 139, 140.

Most startling messages will be borne by men of God's appointment, messages of a character to warn the people, to arouse them. And while some will be provoked by the warning, and led to resist light and evidence, we are to see from this that we are giving the testing message for this time. Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 137.

This is the type of preaching needed today. We need messages that stir conviction and conscience. Messages that provoke men to study and to know the true condition of their hearts before the judgment seat of Christ.

This is the work of Joshua, and the work of Elijah. They draw a line in the sand and say choose today who you will SERVE. So what is your decision? Will you serve SELF or will you serve CHRIST? It is impossible to serve them both. There are churches who teach you in subtle ways, that you can, and that it is acceptable to God. They are teaching a falsehood.

Other Christians know that is wrong, but subconsciously convince themselves that their compromising lives are acceptable to God. Which is worse? Being lied to, or lying to yourself? I will tell you the truth. If you are double minded and are seeking with half a mind to serve Christ and half a mind to serve self, you are not a Christian and you need to repent.

Let me be plain, you may have denied yourself years ago when you chose to quit smoking drinking etc. Some will pat themselves on the back as though that was the end of the warfare to be a Christian and they won! When in reality it was just the beginning, and they never started the real war. Self denial is not a once in a life time request by God, nor is it the occasional good deed. True Christian self-denial is a DAILY experience.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

Are you fighting the good fight of faith every day, or did you raise the white flag of surrender a long time ago. These days do you try to tell your conscience not raise too much fuss about these things? Do you tell your self, "God Understands?"

Do you want to know the truth?

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. John 9:41

All 10 Virgins slept. Sleep= death. All 10 virgins woke up and found themselves in a spiritually lost state. 5 were wise and woke up and put away with their sins and wholly consecrated themselves to the service of Christ before it was too late. 5 were foolish and when they woke up they knew something was wrong, but did nothing about it. Which camp are you going to choose? The camp that is double minded, or the one with an eye single to the glory of God, wholly devoted to Christ. Your decision will result in you being either saved or lost. I have that choice to make, and so do you? I pray we both choose wisely.

"Don't play Christian. Be one!"
